What is Three Dimensional (3D) Ultrasound? 3D Ultrasound offers wonderful quality images of your baby which far surpass traditional 2D images. 3D ultrasound is non-diagnostic, allowing clear visualization of your baby. *At no time are the ultrasounds performed at our facility to be used for diagnostic purposes.*
Is 3D Ultrasound safe? Are there any risks to me or my baby? Ultrasound has been performed and studied for over 30 years during which time no evidence has shown any harm to the baby or mother. This is the same technology that is used in 2D conventional scanning.
What is the difference between 3D ultrasound and 4D ultrasound?
4D adds the dimension of motion so you see baby yawing or stretching. 3D is a still image of your baby.
Are 3D and 4D ultrasound safe for me and my baby?
Ultrasounds have been used for over 30 years and there have been no proven side effects from its proper use. Extensive studies over 30 years have found that ultrasound has not been shown to cause any harm to mother or baby. Routine scanning of all pregnancies is now normal throughout Canada. In 3D/4D scanning, exactly the same type and intensity of ultrasound is used as with conventional 2D scanning.
What should I do prior to the 3D/4D appointment?
About a half hour before your 3D/4D ultrasound scan, try to drink a fruit juice or eat a light lunch so that your baby will be awake during your session.
How many family/friends can I bring?
I will never limit how many friends/family you may bring to the session. Your 3D ultrasound at Baby Bonus will be in a relaxed comfortable atmosphere while you share with loved ones images of your baby. A warm non-clinical like atmosphere is what makes Baby Bonus 3D Ultrasound a great place to see your baby while sharing with others. There is room for a few family members and also a comfortable chair which faces a 42" LCD TV.
How can I pay for the ultrasound?
We currently accept Visa, Debit card, Cheque, and Cash.
When do I get my 3D/4D pictures and videos?
I need to finalize the DVD so you won’t have any difficulty viewing the DVD at home, this takes about 5 minutes after your session has ended. It is also minutes to copy the still pictures onto a CD as well. You will leave with DVD, CD, colour and black & white photos after your scan.
What will determine the quality of the images?
There are times when despite our advanced technology and efforts, creating a picture exactly as you envision is not always possible. Your baby may demonstrate its nature by facing Mom's back or by putting his/her hands/feet in front of their face or by pressing his/her face against the uterine wall. These are just a few of the ways in which baby will make it difficult for us to obtain "pretty pictures". Every 3D ultrasound is different based on gestational age, position, amount of fluid, placenta location or location of fetal body parts. Any of the above may interfere with views of the face or other body parts. If after a brief assessment of the fetal position, we feel that we will be unable to create or obtain adequate images, we can discuss rescheduling your appointment.
Do you scan twins?
Of course, although it may be difficult to see both babies clearly at the same time, we will do our best. We recommend any persons considering a 3D/4D scan for a twin gestation should do so between 24-27 weeks when there is ample fluid and the babies are generally more active.
Does this take the place of a diagnostic ultrasound that my doctor orders?
No. At no time is this exam to be used in place of a complete diagnostic ultrasound. This is a NON-diagnostic ultrasound. Prior to having a 3D/4D scan you must already be receiving treatment with a healthcare provider for prenatal care and have already undergone your 18-20 week medical, diagnostic ultrasound screen for any abnormalities and to confirm your due date.
Are you able to tell the sex of the baby?
Yes, hopefully the baby will cooperate during your session. Certain factors such as the fetal position can affect the ability to determine sex. Gender determination is not 100% accurate.
Who performs the ultrasound scans and what are their credentials?
Lynn is the sole sonographer at Baby Bonus 3D Ultrasound. Lynn is a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS), graduated in 1999, as well as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), graduated 2007.
How long will my appointment take?
I book one hour appointments to ensure a non-hurried atmosphere. The actual scan time is 30 minutes.
